Dr. Avard Fairbanks, working on the Angel Moroni with his grandson David. The Washington DC Temple can been seen in the background.

The colossal size Angel Moroni was cast in bronze and finished in gold leaf. It was placed on the foremost spire of the Washington DC Temple. Smaller replicas were later made and placed on the Seattle, Mexico City, West Jordan and Denver temples. The angel is depicted holding the gold plates in his left hand, which contain the Book of Mormon. In his right hand, the angel holds a trumpet which represents the proclamation to the world of the restoration of the gospel. Dr. Fairbanks portrayed the angel as weightless, not subject to the physical effects of the world.
